Dacia Dokker

The Dacia Dokker is a panel van and leisure activity vehicle (LAV) produced by Dacia at the Renault plant in Tangier, Morocco. The model was unveiled at the 2012 Casablanca Auto Show and was first introduced to the Moroccan market in June 2012.^[2] Sales in Romania began in September 2012,^[3] after which it was marketed across Europe, North Africa, Turkey, Israel and the French overseas territories.^[4]

The Dokker was offered in both passenger and panel van configurations,^[5] alongside the crossover-inspired Dokker Stepway, which debuted at the 2012 Istanbul Motor Show.^[6] The Stepway version adopted exterior styling cues similar to those of the Sandero Stepway.^{[7] [8]}

Depending on the market, the model was sold under different brand names. In the CIS countries and the Middle East, it was marketed as the Renault Dokker, while in Latin America and Algeria it was sold as the Renault Kangoo. This branding strategy avoided direct competition with the French-built Renault Kangoo in markets where both vehicles were available. In 2018, Dacia Italia, in cooperation with the Focaccia Group, introduced a pick-up conversion of the Dokker for the Italian market.

In 2020, the Moroccan-built Dokker underwent a facelift and was reintroduced as the Renault Express, replacing both the Dacia Dokker and Renault Dokker.

The first-generation Dokker shares its front-end design with the Dacia Lodgy. According to Dacia, the name Dokker is derived from the term dock worker, reflecting the model's emphasis on practicality, load-carrying capability, modularity and durability.^[9]

The passenger version seats five occupants and provides a luggage compartment with a capacity of 800 litres (28 cu ft). With the rear seats in place, the maximum loading length is 1.16 m (3.8 ft). A single sliding side door is fitted as standard, while a second sliding door is available as an option. The asymmetrically split rear bench can be folded forward against the front seats, increasing cargo volume to 3,000 litres (110 cu ft) and extending the loading length to 1.57 m (5.2 ft).^[9]

The panel van variant offers a cargo capacity of 3,300 litres (120 cu ft) with a maximum loading length of 1.90 m (6.2 ft). Its foldable front passenger seat can be tipped forward against the glove compartment, extending the loading length to 2.42 m (7.9 ft). When the passenger seat is removed entirely, cargo volume increases to 3,900 litres (140 cu ft), while the maximum loading length reaches 3.11 m (10.2 ft).^[9]

The Dokker has a maximum payload of 750 kg (1,653 lb). A second sliding side door was available as an option, while the asymmetrical rear doors could be opened to either 90 or 180 degrees for improved loading access.^[9]

Optional equipment included the Media Nav infotainment system with integrated navigation, audio functions, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, USB and auxiliary inputs. Other available features included cruise control and rear parking sensors.^[9]

The second generation of the Dacia Dokker was introduced in 2021 under the Renault Express nameplate, replacing the Dacia-branded model in a number of markets.^{[23] [24]} Following the introduction of the General Safety Regulation (GSR) in 2024, Renault withdrew the Express from the European market because the model did not meet the new mandatory safety requirements.^[25]

The Renault Express is directly derived from the Dacia Dokker,^[26] retaining the B0/M0 platform, body structure and sliding side doors. The exterior was redesigned with a new front fascia incorporating a revised bonnet, front wings, grille and bumper in line with Renault's contemporary styling language, while redesigned rear doors complemented the updated appearance. The cabin, chassis and the majority of the mechanical and structural components remained largely unchanged from the Dokker.^[27]
