History

[edit ]

Formation

[edit ]

The brigade was formed in 2016 as a reserve unit. It was armed with T-72 tanks.[1] Before February 2022, it was composed of only 130 personnel, who were tasked with maintaining its equipment.[2]

Russian invasion of Ukraine

[edit ]

Following the start of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the brigade's ranks were filled with mobilized soldiers.[2] [3] Less than two months later, it took part in the Battle of Izium, which resulted in the town's capture by Russian forces. In September, as part of the 2022 Kharkiv counteroffensive, it was one of the units that retook Izium.[3] The brigade also fought in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, and in the Battle of Marinka.[2]

In September 2022, during the counteroffensive operation in Kharkiv region, the brigade took part in the liberation of the settlements of Bairak, Shchurivka, Nova Husarivka, and the city of Balakliia.[citation needed ]
