Starting in July 2026, there have been multiple wildfires in Greece.
Background
[edit ]The wildfires occurred during the 2026 European heatwaves.[1] On 5 July, there were dozens of wildfires ongoing across Greece.[2]
Attica
[edit ]On 2 August 2026, two people were killed when two firefighting helicopters crashed near Athens.[3] This happened amid wildfires in places such as Porto Germeno, Psatha, Fokida, Megara and Kefalonia.[4]
Crete
[edit ]On 30 July 2026, thousands of people were evacuated in Crete due to wildfires.[5] The fires destroyed large areas of farmland, olive groves and residential areas.[6]
Three firefighters have been reported killed.[7]
Paros
