User:StefenTower
the Stefen Tower (né Steve Magruder; heehee/him), formerly known on Wikipedia as Stevietheman, is a sit-down comedaean (/ˈkɑːmʌˌdaɪʌn/ ) from The 'Ville. Heehee is currently developing a YouTube program to be entitled Stefen Tower Presents!!1! Starring Stefen Tower.
In the Wikipedia, Tower is an article doctor (if not meatball surgeon), a template tinkerer, a WikiProject mechanic, a database reports curator, and very often a WikiGnome (a doer of maintenance gruntwerk hardly anyone else wants to do yet needs to be done). His main mode of work in the Wikipedia has been improving existing articles and the "connective tissue" (categories, links, navigation templates, etc.) between them. Heehee has admittedly not created articles very much, but heehee has created mounds of categories (600+) and redirects (1,500+), as well as some pretty cool WikiProject pages/reports. Heehee prefers the grunt existence and therefore typically eschews admin-like work and has no interest in becoming an admin.
Further, Tower is a total spelling crank, thus his multitudinous AutoWikiBrowser (AWB) cleanups. In his typo-hunting adventures, heehee's come to know our beloved encyclopedia as riddled with typos, grammar flaws, MOS violations and more. Someone's gotta fix this mess. (Note: Did you notice his typos and gross violations of MOS:CONTRACTION in this paragraph? Since this ain't a real article, heehee can get away with it here.) And sometimes doing these cleanups comes with the discovery of much more serious problems, such as major unsourced additions, LLM use, and outright vandalism. All in all, AWB enables great wiki-oriented hall monitoring, even at the scale of WikiProjects!
Last, yes, Tower refers to himself in the third person because heehee wished to write some crapola as a boilerplate for his future Wikipedia article, like that's gonna happen.[1]
Ongoing Wikipedia efforts
Following are the Stefen Tower's ongoing pursuits on this wild ride we call Wikipedia:
- Ad hoc article improvements
- Ad hoc category creations – Most of Tower's category creations have been Louisville-related.
- Gradually improving WikiProject Louisville's priority articles to move them toward WP:GA and WP:FA
- Enhancing RegExTypoFix (new typos to fix, avoiding false positives) – Tower hasn't done this much recently, but heehee has been building a list of potential new typo fixes to add.
Cross-project work
- WikiProject Insights – Building a library of database queries and reports, which together help editors gain data-driven insight into how they may assist WikiProject efforts. Currently this is informal in the form of a list of queries on Quarry and their implementations in several WikiProjects, but Tower will be formalizing it at some point. (Heehee has also created a few queries heehee calls "Editor Insights", listed at the same location.) See his database report deployments below.
- Structural improvements – Most of Tower's work as been on WikiProject Louisville so far, but heehee has also revised WikiProject Kentucky somewhat. Heehee has made a few minor changes to WikiProjects Chicago, Indiana and Illinois as well.
- Cataloging of existing articles/pages – Tower has been concentrating on WikiProjects Louisville, Kentucky and Indiana (including the Indianapolis department) recently, and intends to expand to WikiProjects Chicago, Cincinnati, Illinois and Ohio.
- Categorizing WikiProjects and their components, concentrating in assessments and reports recently.
- WikiProject 2.0 – Where Tower asks the semi-loaded question: "How can we reignite WikiProjects?"
Semi-automated mass article cleanup (past year)
Mass cleanup to address typos, general fixes and serendipitous cleanup concerns is done running AutoWikiBrowser (AWB) on article lists based on the following areas (either WikiProject- or category-based), subject orbits (an article's outgoing and incoming links), or ad hoc generation (e.g., last n contributions). As some of these runs are repeated, the date shown is the day of the latest run.

The results contain many false positives but as a whole can still be used to tease out articles outside a WikiProject's category orbit that are missing from inclusion in that WikiProject. Their categorization related to the WikiProject would ordinarily be improved at the same time. |
