Hello, and welcome to Wikibooks!

Here are some tips to help you get started:

  • To learn the wiki-markup-language syntax, see Help:Editing.
  • Make sure to sign your posts and comments with four tildes, like this: ~~~~
    • There is a box at the top of the edit window (if javascript is enabled on your browser) that will insert it too (looks like part of a signature). This will let others know who left it, and make it easy to reply back to you.
  • Remember to conduct any editing experiments in the sandbox (global to the system) or in a page on your own userspace.
  • You can tell the community something about yourself in your userpage.
    • You can get to this page by clicking the tab at the top of the page labeled with your registered username.
  • Wikibooks are open-source textbooks. (What is Wikibooks).
  • If you are a Wikipedian, see Wikibooks:Wikibooks for Wikipedians for a primer on how things work here (it's a little different).
    • If you want to base your work here on materials from Wikipedia, please use WB:RFI.
  • If you're an instructor and plan on using Wikibooks for a class project, see Wikibooks:Guidelines for class projects
  • Please say hello at the Reading Room with any questions or ideas.
  • Eventually, you might want to read the Manual of Style and Policies and Guidelines.
    • Help us by participating in policy and guideline creation.
    • Please take a look at Wikibooks:Naming policy before starting a new book.
  • Remember to keep a Neutral point of view.
  • Explore, be bold in editing pages, and have fun!

You will find more resources in Community Portal. If you have questions, visit the Study help desk, the Reading Room, IRC channel or ask me personally on my talk page. For site news, see the Bulletin board. It might be a good idea to add that page to your "watchlist" so that you can see when any new information is posted there. You can do that by clicking the tab labeled "watch" at the top of the page.

(This is not an automated message, I'll be watching during a time for any reply you make to it...)

Good luck! --Panic (talk) 09:28, 16 February 2010 (UTC) Reply

Thanks for your message, I made the mistake (as I quite often do) of reading "This is not an..." is "This is an" so I thought you were a bot or something :P. I've found things really interesting here, a lot of books I've looked at seem inactive, I've had a few ideas to make write them, and done so, reading that it's good to be bold. It seems quite often people talk about making a change, but they don't actually do anything (maybe worried about other people?) So hope to step out and make those changes to the best of my intuition, any advice? --Mattylaws (talk) 12:49, 17 February 2010 (UTC) Reply

Hey! This is Arun Reginald. I have been actively involved in just about every nook and cranny of the Java Programming book and I sincerely think that the feedback you left on the book is highly valuable and may take the book in the right direction. I would like to help you in editing the book and making the book as readable and enjoyable as it can possibly be. I haven't been editing for a while now but would be grateful if a new set of eyes could look through the Java Programming book. Report anything you find that may need cleaning up and I will make sure that is done. Thanks again for your comments and feedback. Hope to see more ideas sprouting up from your end. Cheers – Arunreginald (talk) 00:51, 22 February 2010 (UTC) Reply

Thanks for your message, as mentioned Java Programming talk page sorry I've been a way for a few days.

I've quite enjoyed looking through the book and thinking about how the end product would look like, I think there's quite an uphill struggle but I certainly hope to try and (with the help of others) get the project on the right track.

Just forgive me if I make a mistake, wikibooks is very new to me and using wikis in general is quite against what I'm used to (where development happens quite behind the scenes.

I'm new on wikibooks and interrested in doing a dutch translation of this wikibook, i translate cause it makes it easier for me to learn and remember so i was wondering if i can publish the translated pages as i go on ?

and i wanted to ask if there's a way of communication with the others working on the java programming wikibook.

Hope to hear from you.
