Media Specifications

Samsung devices have rich media playback capabilities, including support for various media extensions, using the available audio and video decoders. This topic describes the media formats supported by Samsung Smart devices, and the limitations on their support.

NoteThe WMA codec is no longer supported on the 24TV_BASIC4, 2025 and later device models.
TV: The RA (RealAudio) codec and RMVB (RealMedia Variable Bitrate) format are no longer supported on the 2026 and later device models.
HTV: The RA (RealAudio) codec and RMVB (RealMedia Variable Bitrate) format are no longer supported on the Tizen 10.0 and later device models.
Signage: The RA (RealAudio) codec and RMVB (RealMedia Variable Bitrate) format are no longer supported on the Tizen 10.0 and later device models.

MSE/EME Specifications

Samsung devices support the W3C Media Source ExtensionsTM (MSE) and Encrypted Media Extensions (EME) specifications. For detailed information about MSE and EME, see the W3C specification documents:

The following table lists the supported W3C MSE and EME specification versions. These extensions allow you to use JavaScript to generate media streams for playback, and play DRM-enabled content without any third-party plugins.
