Bell Bottom Blues

Bell Bottom Blues ist ein Song, der von Eric Clapton geschrieben und 1971 von seiner Band Derek and the Dominos veröffentlicht wurde. Der Song beschäftigt sich mit unerwiderter Liebe und erschien auf dem Album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs . Die erste Singleveröffentlichung mit der B-Seite Keep on Growing erreichte 1971 Platz 91 der Billboard Hot 100.^[1] Ein Rerelease der Single zusammen mit Little Wing erreichte Platz 78.

Bell-Bottoms sind Schlaghosen, die in den 70er Jahren populär waren. Clapton zufolge schrieb er den Song für Pattie Boyd, nachdem sie ihn darum bat, ein Paar Bell-Bottoms aus den USA mitzubringen. Clapton schrieb zudem noch weitere Lieder für sie wie I Looked Away und Layla .^[2]

Bell Bottom Blues wurde aufgenommen, bevor Duane Allman an den Aufnahmesessions beteiligt war, somit ist Clapton der einzige Gitarrist in dem Song.^[3] Clapton nahm mehrere Gitarrenparts auf, in denen er ein sanftes und harmonisches Gitarrenspiel verwendete.^{[4] [5]}

Der Text des Liedes beschreibt eine Auseinandersetzung.^[3] Bill Janovitz von Allmusic lobte die herzzerreißende Gesangsdarbietung Claptons im Refrain^[6]

Matthew Sweet und Susanna Hoffs coverten Bell Bottom Blues 2009 auf ihrem Album Under the Covers, Vol. 2.^[7] Bruce Springsteen verwendete die Zeile „I don't wanna fade away" für seinen Song Fade Away aus dem Jahr 1980.^[8] Lady Gaga verweist auf den Titel in ihrem Song Dope, indem sie singt: „I'm sorry and I love you, sing with me Bell Bottom Blue".^[9]
