It is suggested that moderation actions follow the following principles. Their application is at the discretion of the moderation team, depending on the circumstances. The detailed explanation of the moderation action and the discussions that follow are an opportunity for each member of the Forgejo community to ask the moderation team to justify why they deviated from this guide.
* If inappropriate behavior is detected, the person should be informed via private channels (e.g. e-mail, matrix) if possible. The moderation team should try to explain the situation and help the person achieve a successful resolution of the problem.
via private channels if possible, e.g., email or Matrix
really two commas? looks strange but maybe it is correct :)
Ig, I found a usage example on https://dictionary.cambridge.org.
I suggest more natural language, less abbreviations and punction:
via private channels if possible (such as email or Matrix)
and slight preference for "aim to" rather than "try to"
Before I make the commit: If inappropriate behavior is observed, the person should be informed privately through the shared account (via mail or matrix) if possible. The moderation team should endeavor to explain the situation and assist the person in successfully resolving the issue.?
That seems good and clear enough. My only thought is whether it can be shortened so the key points stand out more easily, and I think active language is better than passive here. I think this reads better and more directly:
When informing someone about their inappropriate behavior, communicate privately through shared accounts (via mail or matrix) if possible. Endeavor to clearly explain the situation and assist the person in successfully resolving the issue.
That uses imperative mode instead of "moderators should" language. If you really prefer the other, it's easy to swap that in instead.
I used "moderators should" to make it more consistent with the rest and because also non moderators will read it andd then communicate privately sounds incorrect (for me) 🤔
But I'm not a native English speaker. 😃
"communicate privately" is normal natural English, though there are alternative ways to say the same thing. On "moderators should", that's just various trade-offs and relates to who is reading. I agree that consistency across the document is best.
Makes sense
a suggested simplification (non blocking). Otherwise looks great.
