add-essays into main I thought it was worth to add more long-form essay style documents to explain the rationale, design choices etc... or just explore ideas in a less formal way than a spec.

I've been able to run it locally without any problem
Adds mdbook as the tool to build the documentation. mdbook is a tool that was born out of rust documentation efforts. I chose mdbook as an experiment. Seems OK for now although it took a while to set up and the mermaid diagram looks tiny. Adding this tool required yet more directory restructures.  Reviewed-on: #13
