Post-Installation Steps

Congratulations, you've installed Phoenix! While we believe that we've carefully considered Phoenix's settings and tailored it to be suitable for most users out of the box, there are a few things that you should know, and some changes that you might consider making.

Setting preferences

Most of the following wiki pages will specifically cover changing/overriding preferences. Depending on your personal preference, there are a few ways you can do this:

  • You might be able to configure the preference in the UI (This will be noted for preferences that support it, and it'll include where you can find it)

  • You can configure the preference by navigating to your about:config - your value will persist, just like it would on a standard Firefox installation.

  • Advanced: You can add the preference to a user.js file located in your Firefox profile's directory (This is the path listed beside Root Directory under your profile at about:profiles). This can be useful for power users who want to easily back-up/transfer preferences with minimal set-up across Firefox profiles/installations, and for those who want a central place to easily remember, store, and keep track of their changes.

RECOMMENDED

The pages in this section cover preferences we would recommend all Phoenix users take a look at and consider applying.

Relax

Pages in this section cover optional preferences that you may want to change to relax Phoenix's hardening, depending on your threat model, personal preference, and other factors. Note that settings in this section will reduce your privacy and/or security. These settings should be changed only if necessary.

Further Hardening

The pages in this section detail preferences you can optionally configure to further improve your privacy & security, at the cost of breakage and usability. Note that these preferences are already configured in Phoenix Extended , but they're still detailed here for users who would prefer to only apply certain changes from Extended, instead of setting everything. See Recommended above before applying these changes!

User Experience

Pages in this section cover optional preferences related to the browsing experience that you may want to consider depending on your personal preference. These do NOT impact privacy and/or security.
