How I set up my home server
I mostly made this for my friend who knows barely anything about programming or self hosting, so it should be beginner-friendly. I'll make seperate posts on degoogling.
Self hosted services
| Purpose | Service |
|---|---|
| Files | Copyparty |
| Photos | Immich |
| Calendar, contacts, tasks | Radicale |
| Ad blocking | Pihole |
| Recipe management | Mealie |
| Website | Nginx (README.md also covers websites in general) |
Meta services
| Purpose | Service |
|---|---|
| VPN | Tailscale and TSDProxy |
| Docker GUI | Arcane |
| Backups | Backrest |
General tools
Docker Git Zed git.gay or Codeberg curl
How to
- Follow the steps given in The 0ドル Home Server
until you've disabled the sleep function (don't worry about the stuff afterwards)
- Use an ethernet cable to directly connect your server to your router
- Manual for Telstra routers
- Install the general tools (I highly recommend installing all)
- See the README.md file for the service you want to set up
