Villages only spawn in a few select biomes with lots of open space. It is possible to explore large portions of the map without ever finding a village because it is the wrong biome.

Ideas:

  • Add new village type that is compatible with forests (challenge: Avoid deleting trees and plants in an ugly way)
  • Add lonely huts, not part of any village but more common (should make trading way more accessible)

Oooo lonely huts, so something kinda like trading posts by colonists in North America? Something like those folk who make their own housing with raw materials, far away from cities?

Would be funny if they mostly traded pelts and hunted animals like skunks ahahaha x3
Or eh, if we considered it realistically, they'd trade goods for pelts

Not inspired by colonization, but yeah, it could be seen as trading posts.

The idea is that it will be easier for the player to start trading so you don't have to find a whole village. The huts should be more common than villages. The benefit of this idea these trading posts are small so there are many opportunities for the mapgen to place them.

Oh yeah not inspired by, but it'd be interesting to implement something like it ;o

Yeah exactly :D it makes a lot of sense to have them - should make the world more lively as well. It'd be nice for them to have local decorations depending on the biome

Forest villages are a thing now (although not yet with an unique building style).

This still leaves lonely huts open.
