New Mobs API #42

I want a new Mobs API. Mobs Redo just sucks.

The minimal feature set is for now to replicate the features of the current system but with better code and API and bug-free. Improvements go into separate issues.

Minimal features:

  • Basic behavior
    • Random roaming
    • Don't fall off cliffs
    • Avoid damaging nodes
    • Avoid drowning nodes
    • Escape from dangerous nodes
    • Attacking and chasing enemy
    • Look at player holding food
    • Don't jump if can't jump above obstacle
  • States
    • Targeting enemy
    • Neutral
    • Follow player if holding food
  • Animations
  • Sounds
  • Breeding
  • Feeding and taming
  • Capturing
  • Fall damage
  • Drop items on death
  • Breath and drowning
  • Replicate the mob-specific behavior
    • 🐑 Sheep
    • 🐗 Boar
    • 🦨 Skunk
    • 🥢 Walker
    • 🐢 Mineturtle
    • 🧍 Trader
  • Respect liquid physics
  • Reimplement mob-related achievements
  • Spawning
  • Fix all known bugs with the new Mobs API

Extra features (put in new issues):

  • Fleeing
  • Hunger
  • Mood system?
  • Knockback?
  • Sliding on slippery nodes?
  • 🦨 Skunk: Special poison cloud attack

Mob Redo is mobkit, right? That hasn't been updated since like early 2021 iirc lol

Should probably lump #26 with this :D

If this is mobkit, not only is it difficult for them to escape water, if they're in 2 nodes of water, they just instantly die lol (discovered this while programming Exiles and thought it was so dumb)

No, Mobs Redo and mobkit are two completely different mods. Currently, Repixture uses an ancient Mobs Redo fork.

I have decided to completely scrap the mobs system and create my own only for Repixture because all the other mods do not satisfy me or are poorly documented. You can look at the branch mobs_new2 to follow development, which has been going slowly but steady. You can already find extensive documentation there in the file mods/rp_mobs/API.md.

I am happy to report the new mob API is finally standing and all the mobs have been rewritten.

It is now very close to being finished, it now only needs the final finishing touches. Esp. bugfixes.
