Micron

Micron is a WordPress theme based on Typeflow that incorporates microblogging statuses at the theme level. The goal is to provide users of the WordPress-ActivityPub and Enable Mastodon Apps plugins with a way to easily represent both long-form articles and short-form posts.

Purpose

Currently, there's some amazing development going on with making WordPress a bonafide member of the Fediverse. You can follow blogs and authors, comment on articles, post statuses, and follow other users. However, to get the most functionality out of this situation, you need to install a handful of plugins:

WordPress-ActivityPub - Handles Federation
Enable Mastodon Apps - Incorporates Mastodon API for clients
Friends - enables following, boosting, and replying to other people and activities on the Fediverse.

You can get pretty far with customizations, but... it's still a somewhat disjointed experience. We can't solve every problem here, but we can try to solve a big one: making statuses look right. By streamlining the process for posting and rendering Notes, Micron can at least help with making the social side of ActivityPub more visible and accessible from WordPress.

The work being done on Micron will ultimately culminate in a "StoryStream"-type experience on We Distribute, where we marry short and Long-Form content on our frontend, and federate everything over ActivityPub!
