I would like to migrate my user account to organization account with the same name and email. I would create new user account with new email to be part of organization. Example of functionality in Github: https://docs.github.com/en/account-and-profile/setting-up-and-managing-your-personal-account-on-github/managing-your-personal-account/converting-a-user-into-an-organization.

Is this possible to accomplish ?

No, there is currently no such functionality built in.

My recommended procedure:

  • create a new organization
  • transfer the repositories one-by-one to the new organization: Visit the repository settings, scroll down to the "Danger zone", initiate a transfer to your desired organization
  • rename the user account
  • rename the organization to the desired name

Sorry to revive this issue but this process requires the seven day cooldown it seems or am I missing something?

It shouldn't if you follow the exact process. Please open a new issue if you are facing the cooldown limit.

Thanks! I will give it a go.

Just tried to follow the instructions one by one. I got unlucky when I tried to rename the organization to the desired name. This name (my previous username) was not available and will have to wait for 7 days. Now I am stuck.

I have the same issue.
I followed the procedure described, but it got stuck when changing the organizations name.

The goal was to "convert" the kabk user to an organistation.
So I:

  • logged in kabk user account
  • created organisation kabkorg
  • transferred all repositories from kabk to kabkorg
  • renamed kabk user account to bakk
  • attempted to rename kabkorg to kabk (while being logged in to bakk (previously known as kabk)) -> cooldown period triggered

@Gusted is it still possible for you to rename this manually, or is it getting out of hand?
If it's possible, then I would be extremely happy if you could rename the organisation kabkorg to kabk.

btw, this is wild speculation, but I believe the issue could be around...

  • here

    if userRedirect.RedirectUserID == ctx.Doer.ID {
     return true, time.Time{}, nil
    }

    is it possible that we need to get the Doer.ID from the passed Context and check against that?
