Ode to Bash

I think that I shall never flash
A script more terse than one in Bash.

A language born of pipes and hacks,
Of redirects and stdout stacks.

Where loops and ifs feel kind of wrong,
Yet conjure magic all day long.

Its quirks are many, traps abound–
Like quoting wars that rage unbound.

With $? and $# and $@,
It’s ASCII art in syntax form, no less!

Though eval brings unholy dread,
And stray IFS can wreck your head,

Still Bash stands firm – unchanged, austere–
A hacker's tool, forever dear.

For tasks both quick and deeply nested,
It's where your Unix skills get tested.

So here's to Bash, bizarre yet bold–
A shell of scripts, both hot and cold.
