The Carson Economic Development Commission shall have the following authority and duties:
- Act in an advisory capacity to the City Council, the Carson Successor Redevelopment Agency, the City Manager, the Executive Director, and the Economic Development Group in all matters pertaining to economic development issues.
- Evaluate and recommend methods, measures, and programs which will favorably impact the City’s business and industrial climate by attracting to and retaining business and industry in Carson, by providing assistance to firms having the potential of expanding their activities in Carson, and by creating a positive image of Carson as a place for business and industry.
- Ensure a diverse economic and employment base for the City with a variety of business types, sizes, and markets, including small and disadvantaged businesses.
- Review requests for City and Successor Redevelopment Agency assistance and make recommendations to the City Council and Successor Redevelopment Agency.
- Coordinate projects with the Carson/Lomita/Torrance Private Industry Council that are designed to inform and educate citizens and businesses concerning its services.
- Advise and assist other City Groups, Commissions and Committees in developing and administering programs and procedures which will further the City’s economic development goals and objectives.
- Monitor regional projects, plans, and decisions which might impact the City’s economic development goals and objectives.
- Act in an advisory capacity to the City Council and the Information Technology Manager in all matters pertaining to information technology issues.
- Review and provide advice and recommendations concerning the City’s information technology systems and recommend to the full City Council enhancements to such systems and ways to enhance teaching of computer and information technology literacy for Carson residents.”
