CVE-2010-4157

Bug Description

Integer overflow in the ioc_general function in drivers/scsi/gdth.c in the
Linux kernel before 2.6.36.1 on 64-bit platforms allows local users to
cause a denial of service (memory corruption) or possibly have unspecified
other impact via a large argument in an ioctl call.

[SCSI] gdth: integer overflow in ioctl

gdth_ioctl_alloc() takes the size variable as an int.
copy_from_user() takes the size variable as an unsigned long.
gen.data_len and gen.sense_len are unsigned longs.
On x86_64 longs are 64 bit and ints are 32 bit.

We could pass in a very large number and the allocation would truncate
the size to 32 bits and allocate a small buffer. Then when we do the
copy_from_user(), it would result in a memory corruption.

As this was in v2.6.37-rc1 Natty is not affected.

This patch has already hit Maverick and Lucid via the mainline stable process. Closing there.

Patches for Dapper, Hardy and Karmic have been pushed out for review.

This bug was fixed in the package linux - 2.6.24-28.86
