The scheme allows researchers from across disciplines and from developing countries and the UK to hold networking events, to forge new links and generate innovative transdisciplinary research ideas to address global challenges. We expect that these new networks will then be better positioned to compete for more substantive grants offered by future funding initiatives.
Impact of Covid-19 - The Academy will be as flexible as possible to support all our researchers around the challenges to their work from Covid-19. We acknowledge that Covid-19 may have an impact on the applicant’s ability to carry out traditional in person networking events, in the short term. We encourage applicants to be creative in considering how networking events might be delivered remotely should this be appropriate. For up to date information on the Academy’s response to Covid-19, please see our information hub and FAQs for applicants and award holders .
We are delighted to be working with the British Academy, the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Royal Society to offer Global Challenges Research Fund Networking Grants.
The Global Challenges Research Fund is a five year 1ドル.5 billion fund supporting cutting-edge interdisciplinary research. It aims to address global issues through challenge-led research and strengthen research capacity both in the UK and in developing countries. Our GCRF networking grants:
The Academy has previously also run a range of global health policy workshops supported through the Global Challenges Research Fund programme - find out more about our ongoing policy work to address global health challenges.
Applicants can be from any discipline, and applications should focus on building a collaborative network. Therefore proposals should be submitted jointly by a lead overseas researcher from a developing country and a lead researcher based in the UK.
To be eligible to apply, both applicants must:
Lead applicants must not be affiliated to a profit-making and/or commercial organisation. Applications will not be considered if there is more than one UK co-applicant or an overseas applicant not from a DAC-listed country. Please note that for this round of competition, researchers from China are not eligible to be lead applicants. They may be named as part of the wider collaborative network but should not receive direct funding.
This grant forms part of the UK’s Official Development Assistance (ODA), which promotes economic development and welfare in developing countries. In order for applications to be eligible for this grant, applicants must clearly show that their proposal’s aims are in-line with those of the ODA. These include strengthening global peace and security, promoting global prosperity and tackling extreme poverty. The delivery partners for this scheme have provided some ODA guidance for applicants, which can be downloaded from the right side of this page.
Projects for Round 8 should commence in March 2023, and the funding will last for one year, though no-cost extensions will be considered. Full details of eligibility for this scheme are outlined in the guidance, which can be downloaded from the right side of this page. Please read this carefully before submitting an application.
Please contact the grants team if you have any queries on 020 3141 3243, or email us at [email protected]
This scheme is targeted at experienced researchers who are looking to form new international collaborations. The maximum amount available is 25,000ドル of which 5,000ドル can be used for consumables for obtaining pilot data, archival research or fieldwork. The remainder can be used to contribute towards travel and subsistence costs, costs associated with networking events, administrative support and access to technical support.
