  • Seminar on Mega City Development Policies through Industrial Promotion -

The Daejeon Sejong Research Institute, hosted by the Korean Public Policy Evaluation Association and co-organized with Open Policy News, will hold the "Mega Industry-Centric Mega City Policy Seminar" on March 17th (Monday) at 2 PM in the Daeseyen conference room. This seminar is the first of its kind in the country, held with the purpose of emphasizing that a strategy centered on fostering mega industries is the most crucial and effective for the development of regional mega cities.

Kang Dae-hoon, the representative of Open Policy News, who is organizing the seminar, stated, "This seminar is the first in Korea to discuss the development strategy of mega industry-centric mega cities, which must possess global super competitiveness," emphasizing that for the development of regional mega cities, nurturing global mega industries such as big tech in regions beyond administrative integration is essential. In this regard, the National Assembly and central government urged strategic cooperation with metropolitan governments to nurture future mega industries, which form the foundation of regional mega cities.

During this seminar, institutions representing national industrial policies, including the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade (KIET), Daeseyen, and Chungnam National University, will present topics on how mega industries such as big tech can be central to the development of regional mega cities.

Huh Moon-goo, Senior Research Fellow at the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade, will give a keynote presentation proposing a mega city plan centered on advanced industries as a key strategy for regional economic revival. Following this, Kim Eun-young, a researcher at Daeseyen, will present specific strategies for fostering the bio industry for the development of the Chungcheong region's mega city. Additionally, Professor Kim Kyu-yong from Chungnam National University's Department of Urban Engineering and a member of the Ministry of Education's RISE committee will present strategies for nurturing local talent, which is essential for the continuous development of regional mega city industries.

In the ensuing discussion, Park Byung-sik, President of the Korean Public Policy Evaluation Association, will chair the meeting. Min Kyung-bae, Chairman of the Daejeon Metropolitan City Council's Budget and Settlement Special Committee, Choi Bong-moon, Professor of Urban Engineering at Mokwon University, Kim Sun-bae, Senior Research Fellow at the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade, and Kang Dae-hoon, representative of Open Policy News and Walkinto Korea's English media, will participate in the discussion on strategies and policies for industrial promotion to advance regional mega cities.

Moving forward, Open Policy News and the Korean Public Policy Evaluation Association plan to continuously propose mega industry-centric regional mega city development strategies and strengthen cooperation with relevant institutions such as the Committee on Regional Era and the Association of Korean Local Governments.
