The wet process adopted in traditional industrial production allows phosphorylating agents (orthophosphate,
metaphosphate, phosphorus oxychloride, etc.,) to be added to the starch suspension or reacted in organic solvents.

Later work on binary magnesium phosphate glass exhibit unusual trends in the relationship of their composition/ physical properties such as density and refractive index around the
metaphosphate composition [7,12].
The copper polyphosphates with a molar ratio of Cu/P < 1 are much less numerous, for example, the
metaphosphate [Cu.sub.2][P.sub.4][O.sub.12] and the ultraphosphate [Cu.sub.2][P.sub.8][O.sub.22] [4, 6-9].
The procedure consisted of splitting each sample to obtain a representative sub-sample of 5 to 8 gm of sediment, dispersing the sample in sodium
metaphosphate and mixing for 15 minutes, passing the wet sample through a sieve with 0.063 mm opening to separate the gravel and sand fractions from the silt and clay fractions, and analyzing the suspension that passed the 0.063 mm sieve using a SediGraph Analyzer (described in more detail by Duncan and LaHaie, 1979).

Most of the peaks in diffraction patters correspond to [beta]-calcium orthophosphate (major phase) while the minor phase contains calcium orthophosphate primary along with small amount of calcium
metaphosphate hydrate, respectively.
