Eriugena

Ninth-century Irish theologian John Scotus Eriugena taught that there are two books of revelation: the book of the scriptures and the book of creation.

For this reason thought was conceived by Plotinus as a more unimpeded motion (23), and there is a sense in which the whole of Platonic thought is a <<physics>>--thus Eriugena could include even God within his divisio naturae.

His stages include the metaphysical system of Scotus Eriugena, realist theories in the 11th-12th centuries, the nominal stance: Garland the computist and Abelard's Literal Glosses, Walter of Mortagne and the identity theory, the De Generibus et Speciebus and the theory of collectio, Abelard's position on Porphyry, and Gilbert of Poitiers.

Pseudo-Dionysius likewise understood the world as a theophany, and this was echoed in some of the great medieval theologians, such as John Scotus Eriugena, Hugh of St.
