DERI "SIOC" Research Wins Seven-Year Influential Paper Award

A paper on the SIOC framework from the Digital Enterprise Research Institute at NUI Galway, funded by Science Foundation Ireland, has just been announced as the winner of the seven-year influential paper award from the Extended Semantic Web Conference (ESWC), an annual conference held in Europe that focuses on next-generation web technologies.

As per recent discussions on the SIOC developers mailing list and requests from many parties requesting clarification of the term sioc:User (which has oft been confused with foaf:Person), we are happy to announce that the new term sioc:UserAccount has been added to the ontology in replacement of the now-deprecated sioc:User term (in revision 1.35 of the SIOC ontology).

Obama Administration Using Technology Developed at NUI Galway

An internet technology developed at NUI Galway is to be used by President Obama's administration in its new website devoted to the 800ドル billion economic stimulus package. The administration's 'Recovery.gov' site will employ a web standard, created at NUI Galway's Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI), to bring an unprecedented level of transparency to the US Government.

The winners of the SIOC (pronounced "shock") data competition being run by DERI at the National University of Ireland, Galway have been announced. The competition ran from September to October 2008, and the brief was to produce an interesting creation based on a data set of discussion posts reflecting ten years of Irish online life from boards.ie, Ireland's largest community website.

SIOC tutorial accepted for WWW2008

I'm happy to announce that our tutorial proposal on SIOC entitled "Interlinking Online Communities and Enriching Social Software with the Semantic Web" (Uldis Bojars and John Breslin of DERI, NUI Galway, Alexandre Passant of EDF R&D / LaLICC, Université Paris 4) has been accepted for WWW2008, the 14th International World Wide Web Conference to be held in Beijing, China in April.
