[画像:Travis]Travis is a hearing red merle (with copper) who lost his vision at the age of 2 1/2 years old (detached retina, retinal atrophy and cataracts). He was born in a merle-to-merle litter (which doesn't automatically mean he is MM, solid and normal merle pups are born in those pairings too), but the ophthalmologist who diagnosed his problems believes he is a Double Merle. Travis has quite a bit of color (his right side is whiter than his left, but not as much as the picture shows - the bright sunlight washed it out). His hearing is fine, and he actually worked cattle on a farm until his sight gradually began to go. Luckily, when he was taken in to see what the problem was, his vet recommended that rescue be contacted and a good home was found. Since he came into rescue with his vision essentially gone, we don't know what his eyes were like as a puppy.
Please note that not all Double Merle dogs lose their vision. It can happen, but it can happen to non-doubles too. If there are any visible changes in the appearance of a dog's eyes, or seems to be having vision difficulties, a veterinary ophthalmologist should be consulted.
