Abstract:Description lines are generated at CGD for genes that lack experimental characterization, but which have characterized orthologs in another curated
Candida species at CGD, in
S. cerevisiae at the
Saccharomyces Genome Database (
SGD), or in
Schizosaccharomyces pombe at
PomBase. Orthology between gene products is determined using the criteria detailed
here, and the assignment of predicted GO annotations based on orthology is described
here. GO annotations are included with the following precedence: Biological Process annotations, followed by Molecular Function annotations, then Cellular Component annotations. Because the length of the description line is limited, some of the predicted GO annotations may not appear in the description. Description lines are then generated for genes that lack experimental characterization and characterized orthologs, but which have a
functionally characterized InterPro domain. In such cases, the InterPro-based GO annotations are used to construct a description line using the same precedence rules applied to the orthology-based GO information used in description lines. In a final step, description lines are then generated for genes that lack experimental characterization and characterized orthologs, lack functionally characterized InterPro domains, but which have uncharacterized orthologs; these description lines simply mention the orthology relationship because there is no inferred GO information available.
