Rockwell International was awarded an 18ドル.9 million contract to build a spacecraft to carry the Teal Ruby experiment. The Teal Ruby payload, which was also being built by Rockwell, consisted of a downward-looking infrared sensor with a mosaic focal plane; it was designed to measure aircraft signatures and background flux at infrared wavelengths.
