Hi Clif,
Good questions--I'd like to have a lab grade or professional bench meter but
those are a little too pricey for me. Therefore I cannot give you an exact
measurement. I look at a variety of meters, all of them likely substandard,
and get an average: the f.p. meter on the rig, a cheap in-line meter from
radio shack which seems to read high, a daiwa 801, and the built in meters
with the amp, a Centurion, and one of my transmatches, a 238A. The 238
meter gives the same readings as the 850 f.p. meter. The Centurion has a
forward and reflected electromechanical meter and a forward reading LED bar
which is not exact of course, but is faster in action. All of these give me
a ballpark seat of the pants feel that the amp is not being driven as much
as it could be, partly because I have another 100 w. exciter that easily
drives it to 1200 watts on phone. the 850 meter behaves as if it is a pep
meter--is that incorrect? So anyway, a number of these meters claim to
measure peak power but of course that may not be completely true.
In cw, it easily generates 100w. I did not notice any alc action in cw--I
will have to double check that. I did not realize that kenwoods run the alc
in cw.
Thanks for getting back to me & 73,
Rob/K5UJ
<<<<1. Are you using a peak reading meter??? What brand??
2. How much power does it put out in CW mode??
3. In CW mode how much power is there when the ALC first moves??
