In some old military rigs they included a tool that is rather like a
Chinese finger trap (or whatever it is called). It is a tube of woven
springy wire. One slides it down over the tube and when one pulls up it
closes over the tube and gently holds it as it is pulled out of the socket.
A careful eye will locate them in a variety of sizes at larger Hamfests.
