Hi Jeff,
I'm not familiar with the T-599D but in all other Kenwood rigs that I've
seen with a 12BY7, ALL that is necessary
is to pull the tube shield straight up over the tube. The little tab
connected to the chassis is not physically connected to the shield
but merely slides in under the shield. It may be a little hard to pull
up. By the way, the failure of a 12BY7 is not uncommon and should be
the first tube to try substituting. Other low output common problem can
sometimes be traced to the voltage
doubling capacitor...(easy replacement) Check your HV on your panel
meter and make sure it's still around 800V.
Your 6146s could be softening it they're old but It would be VERY
unlikely that they would both would completely fail at the same time.
It's most likely that something feeding the 6146s failed... either
voltage or rf drive.
Good luck & 73,
Les, WOJH
