W2K and XP are two excellent interaces and I wouldn't see a need to
upgrade beyond either of these, at least not until there's a clear
reason to do so. If you're very comfortable with W2K you can make XP
look and feel exactly like W2K by removing the Fisher-Price
Interface. SP3 is rock-solid and runs faster than Vista on most
peoples' systems and you won't have to go through the nightmare
scenario of setting up DX Base or other older ham radio software under it.
And *Don't* even get me going on UACs under Vista either. If you
understand what's happening they're a pain in the butt. If you don't,
it's an invitation to buy a Mac.
Given your circumstances, I'd say look for a copy of Windows XP
Professional with Service Pack 3, disable the XP-ish interface so it
looks just like W2K and you'll be good for years to come.
