you are mistaken, 
Polling icom rigs continually will still not provide you with
information on split or current TX vfo since there are no commands to
Read this information from the radio.
Yes these things can be set under software control BUT they cannot be
read from the radio by software. this is the root cause of the
problem 
Continual polling is not always a good idea and really should not be 
required by a logging package such as DXbase
