[Dxbase] The Curious Case of the Missing QSOs

Dennis and all:
After playing around with the 2005 logbook of my mdb file..
I have seen the following conclusions with regards to the REF#
column ...
(1) 1st scenario --If I make a new entry - it will pickup the
"next # up" in sequence in the Ref# column ... IF I "delete"
THAT entry and make a new entry -- the Ref # used in my previously
deleted entry is NOT REUSED -- but, I see the "next # up --
the next # up from the # used in my deleted entry ...
(2) 2nd scenario -- IF I "never had done the 1st scenario" --
and just simply made a NEW entry -- it will pickup the "next # up"
in the Ref # column ... Now - IF I "delete" this entry --
and here is the BIG difference ---
and NOW simply close out DXbase - and immediately RUN the Access
Maintainer program - which removes all of the deleted entries
(junk area) ----
and NOW bring DXbase back open and this time make a new entry
and the "next # up" in the Ref column will be the "next up
from the 'original entry' ...
So - bottom line -- the REF # column is only for DXbase
internal use -- and --- to make sure that your REF #'s stay
one-up after each other -- if you make entries and delete
entries -- each time- if you use the access maintainer program
or some such compacting program - your ref#s will be in
sequence..
The above is ONLY to be FYI -- since Ref # column is not used
at all by the DXbase user .. simply do not try to make something
from it..
