+++ The growing LotW processing delays have been with us for months.
Starting on December 10th, the ARRL began displaying the current processing
delay on its web page, updating it hourly. From that point, users had more
than a week to upload QSOs to LotW in time for them to be processed before
year end.
+++ DXPedition logs that were uploaded to LotW after the 19th or 20th will
likely not be processed before the year end. That's unfortunate, but you
reap what you sow. The investment in LotW development and maintenance has
been way too low for far too long.
[pjd] I agree. This is a black mark against the League in my book. I'm not a
League-basher either, although I'm continually bewildered by their seemingly
relentless focus on the emcomm/shack-on-a-belt set rather than the dedicated
HF/contest/DX ops who've got a lot more invested in the hobby in terms of
time and money. Regardless, this really needs to be a wakeup call for those
in control of the purse strings.
Now with all that said, what is the big deal about submitting for the
end-of-the-year now? With the current change in the rules, the only people
who need to have their applications in by 12/31 are those who's Honor Roll
standings are affected. If you're not on H.R. or eligible for it, why not
just submit your cards or LoTW credits when you've reached a meaningful
threshold in your awards pursuit? There's no more free yearbook being sent
out (much to my personal dismay) either...your DXCC stats are just Website
numbers that are constantly in flux.
The only LoTW-related event I can see being of issue before 12/31 is ZL9HR,
which will probably put some first-timers on the Honor Roll and promote a
few more to HR #1. If the reports from ZL9HR's sponsors are accurate, they
uploaded on 12/21. Assuming the 10 day lead time to process still holds,
there's a solid chance that those who need the Campbell Island counter for
HR will get it before the ball drops in Times Square next Monday night.
