Many thanks to Jim, AD1C and also Dave, Noel and Mike, who passed on much
information to me, including that which I requested.
As a relative computer amateur (no pun intended) I realize now that the
number before the mode is a reference to how many characters are in that
particular string - so I learned something.
Again, thanks for all the help - problem resolved.
