In this hobby and direct QSLing there are many, many excellent stations and
managers. However, like in most things, there are always a few that take
notorious advantage of the situation...I call these 'Dead Beat QSL Stations/
Managers'. Stations/Managers who collect the cards and inclosed money,
IRC, stamps, etc. and do not send out the requested QSL card.
To be on my Dead Beat list all the following criteria must be met:
1. The QSL card is sent direct to the correct address with adequate return
support and is not returned either direct within 12 months or via the buro.
2. The station/manager has not responded to an e-mail inquiry about the
missing QSL card(s).
3. The station/manager has not provided his e-mail address (qrz.com) or has
changed his e-mail address without notification.
or the station/manager lives in a country that has a very corrupt postal system
and refuses to choose a 'safe' country for QSLing.
or the station/manager has had serious health or other problems and has not
informed the 'waiting' of his condition.
or the station/manager has not provided clear QSLing instructions on qrz.com.
I believe that these Dead Beat Stations/Managers should be reported so that
others will not be caught in their game. I believe that peer pressure may
have a bearing on their behaviour or at least may affect their conscience
or may remove them from this hobby.
Whenever these stations come on the air they should be challenged as to
their improper behaviour!
A number of stations on my dead beat list have been mentioned on Dx-qsl.
For example:
JA8RUZ manager for E44/JA8RUZ and 5T5RUZ.
OH8SR manager for OH0/OH7MM.
in my case G0NJZ manager for 6Y5/G0NJZ. Interesting case. I e-mailed him
and he replied that he did not get my card and said that his address was
correct. So I sent him another card...no answer and no answer to subsequent
e-mails.
and this list could go on and on.
Some may put AP2JZB, Bob, on this list but I didn't. He lives in a country with
a very corrupt postal system but he will answer e-mails and will go out of his
way to get you a card. In my case he never received my cards (2 trys) and he
had to send my cards twice before I got them, all at his expense.
What do you think? Am I too soft, too hard, should forget it and let the 'dark
side' win, stick my head in the sand?
Did I forget something that should be added to my criteria?
Should a list like this be posted on Dx-qsl?
We as hams sometimes get too polite and I think the scoundrels should be
exposed and condemned.
