A good practice that I have been using for years is to mark my bureau
cards envelopes "Photos- Hand Cancel". Since doing this, I have never had
a machine cancelled stamp or envelope. They have all been hand cancelled.
I also have not had a machine mangled envelope either. I mark this in a
contrasting color in large letters on both sides of the envelope, and it
works.
