Ron - I agree with you 100 percent. I can understand them being intercepted
in certain parts of the world, put my requests were direct to his EU manager
IK5JAN. I would expect a good chance that one of my two letters would
successfully get to the manager.
I sent a SAE and IRC with my first request last year, then a SASE (Bill Plum
unused Italian stamp) AND a greenstamp on my second attempt. No answer so
far, and no response to my e-mails. Fortunately I confirmed 5N via another
station since then.
I totally respect the job QSL managers are doing, especially those that
handle very active and/or multiple DX stations. It's a hard, time consuming
job. You never hear from the satisfied "customers", only those will a
problem. My sincere thanks to all you managers out there.
BTW, this is only one of two direct requests I have sent to an EU manager
with no reply after about years time out many, many requests; so I consider
my return rate excellent. I realize patience is the key, a year is not an
all too uncommon wait. I was just wondering out loud.
I also know the minute I send this e-mail, the reply will show up in my
mailbox and I'll have to (happily) eat crow.....
Thanks Ron, I do appreciate your help.
73 and good DX.

Many of these "unanswered requests" are intercepted prior to them ever
getting to their destination.
While there are a (fortunately very) few amateurs who seem to "collect"
green stamps & IRC's, most of those with less than stellar QSL reputations
are never getting the incoming mail in the first place. Must be frustrating
for them -- some of them QSL 100% of what they get, but get less than 5% of
what's sent to them in the first place.
And before someone brings it up: Yes, a NA or EU QSL manager would
alleviate the problem, but for a large variety of reasons to lengthy to go
into (including but not limited to lack of trust & wounded pride) some of
these stations won't go for it.
