[Antennas] static question

Try to take special care and notice if the noise diminishes any real amount after a good rain. Often the power line poles and insulators are cracked and after a rain, then can quiten down.
When I lived in WV, I fought power line noise for years and finally filed a formal complaint with the state power commission and actually had a hearing in front of an administrative judge. The power company noticed at that point that I was serious. It got fixed. But it helps a lot if you can work with the power company.
Let us know a bit more about your antennas and the surrounding area.
Also, there is a reflextor dedicated to RFI and many helpful hints available there!

Vertically polarized antennas tend to pick up more human-made noise that do
horizontally polarized antennas. Full wave loops (closed) seem to pick up
even less noise and may exhibit some gain on received signals over those on
verticals and 1/2 wave dipoles.
What type of receiving antenna(s) are you using? What are the conditions
surrounding your station? ...urban, suburban, rural, commercial activity,
etc. Is the noise always 24/7 or does it go away at times?

I have bad static here 24/7 and i have the station grounded with a 10 ft
grounding rod ...but it's esp bad the higher you go, not as bad on 28.400
still there not as loud..., but 1.9 and 3.8 is like frying bacon... any
hints or suggestions???
