Hi All,
I have a solution I would like to throw in here. Somehow I missed the
original message so I'm not sure what size lot is in question or what kinds
of support structures are available but I would like to suggest the Alpha
Delta DX-A Twin Sloper. I have one of these at about the 45 foot level of
my tower. It attaches directly to the leg of the tower using it as the
ground side of the antenna and then comes off in two directions like an
inverted vee. It is tuned for 160, 80 and 40 but works on 30, 17 and 12 as
well. If you don't have a tower, you can use a piece of wire down a wooden
support and tied to a ground rod and it will work ok--probably not as well
as the tower with the triband beam to act as top--but it will work.
In terms of performance I have worked the south Pacific, Central and South
America, the entire U.S. including Alaska and Hawaii on 160 and 80 and also
worked the FT5XO DXpedition on 80 with it. On 40, it is no problem to work
Europe and Africa with it. On 80 it is not as good of a local antenna as an
inverted vee but works like gang busters for DX. No, it probably won't
compare to 500 feet of long wire on 160, but it certainly works for me.
And, for the price, it is hard to beat.
Good luck with your quest and very 73.
Kevin :)
