even a horizontal antenna does not "need" radials or a ground screen,
but will certainly be improved by using one.
Of course the range of improvement depends on the ground conductivity
and will be highest with the poorest ground condition.
What is"much" improvement? With an antenna gain around 1dbi I would
expect 0,5 db more as being much, this 0,5db are not much with antenna gains
already at 10dbi....
