[Antennas] coax question

I mounted a small metal electrical box with a hinged door outside my home to
allow for feedlines to enter.
I used a 1/4 masonry bit to remove the mortar from around (2) bricks and
removed the whole bricks
from the wall. Be sure to measure inside to make sure that the bricks you
remove do not land on a wall
stud or electrical outlet. ( These bricks can be easily replaced if you ever
decide to change the location
of your feed-through or sell the place. )
I used (2) pieces of 1 1/4" PVC conduit to pass through the hole, using
threaded connectors
and conduit nuts to secure the conduit to the outside box and to the
sheetrock inside. Be sure
to use some silicone along the top edge of the box to seal out any rain that
might seep between
the box and the bricks. By tightening the conduit nuts, you can secure the
conduit tightly to the
outside box and inside wall. You can paint the box outside to match the
house trim.
I my situation, I use hardline coming from the tower so I mounted all the
hardline connectors in the
bottom side of the box and used RG-213 jumpers to come in the shack. ( 4
runs at 5 ft. each) I can
easily disconnect these jumpers when needed and I also grounded the outside
box with an 8 foot
ground rod to help with lightning. It makes it easy to add feedlines later
by putting another hole in
the bottom side of the box and pull it through. I have my box positioned so
the door hinges are up
so I have better access to the box. I use a little rock wool around the
feedlines as they enter the pvc
conduit to insulate for drafts and keep any little small critters from
getting in.
Mine has been this way for over 10 years without any
problems...............John Brown - KE4HIE
