[Antennas] Info/advice sought on 2 el vert array for 40m

Harvey has a point. Verticals by in large require a lot of wire in the ground or just above it. Unless you have a large estate and don't care how it looks, this is not usually an option for the average ham. You generally need at least 30+ radials to make an 80% effective ground, so this just isn't so good. A vertical dipole is just that, a vertical dipole and not a vertical. R7, R7000 and other end fed antennas have consistantly put out signals that are 1.5 - 2 S units below similarly situated full size [read 1/4 wave] antennas, so this isn't exactly an improvement over a dipole either.
Best bet is to consider wire antennas of gain if you have the room. They are cheap and less time consuming to put up.

Hey Harvey,<br><br>How about a vertical dipole? Or a OCF vertical like the R7 and later, and <br>the GAP antennas? They work pretty well, and don't need an extensive <br>ground plane. At best, they have a single counterpoise.<br><br>Change your statement to --NO 1/4 wave vertical--, and I'll go along with it.<br><br>73, Chas, W1CG<br><br>At 09:09 PM 10/2/2004, Harvey&Bessie wrote:<br>>No matter what kind of vertical you use, always keep in mind that NO <br>>vertical works well without an extensive ground plane.<br>>Harvey/W4TG<br>><br>><br>>______________________________________________________________<br>>Antennas mailing list<br>>Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/antennas<br>>Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.html<br>>Post: mailto:Antennas at mailman.qth.net<br><br><br>______________________________________________________________<br>Antennas mailing list<br>Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/antennas<br>Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.html<br>Post: mailto:Antennas at mailman.qth.net<br>
