[Antennas] vertical noise

Kees,
I use a 40M quarterwave vertical elevated and isolated up a quarterwave
(35') and use 4 quarterwave radials running in a near horizontal. I live in
a rural location. When comparing to a dipole up at 60' the vertical
noticably by ear and s-meter out does the dipole on DX outside the USA. For
high angle signals the dipole out does the vertical, but not for all of the
"more regional" signals. For noise I cannot tell a difference between the
vertical and the dipole during the evening hours. During the daytime hours
the dipole is noticably more noisy, by ear and s-meter. I am happy with the
vertical elevated, it does work well and is easy to maintain.
Good luck on the antenna,
Ken, KA0W

>>The 80m band (sometimes 40m) is very noisy around here.

>The vertical isn't a 1/4 wave on all the bands and the only advantage
>I can see is omnidirectional and a low radiation (DX) profile.
>>I don't want to go the "receive on a loop and transmit on a xxx" ...yet.
