[Antennas] Cubex quad question.

I have been using quads in North Texas for 15 years and another 15 years in
Southern California. Quads work wonderful where there is no ice, but
require a little more maintenance where there is heavy ice. I now have a
very ruggedized 2 element 5 band quad on an 8 foot length 3 inch diameter
aluminum boom and each time that something breaks, I stiffen that up and
that causes something else to break. I am now using 1 1/2 inch x 1/8 inch
steel angle iron 3 feet long for the spreader spider and using 1 1/2 inch
fiberglass spreaders with 1 1/4 inch spreader tips and #14 copper wire on a
5 band quad. (Bamboo worked well in Southern California). The quad will
take a lot of ice, but 1/2 inch radial ice and 60 mile an hour winds will
probably take down any quad. Fortunately, my tower is a Rohn 45 Tilt Over
tower, so it only takes about 5 minutes to have the quad on the ground when
repairs are needed. Out of the last 8 years here in North Texas, Ice (and
high winds) have taken it down 3 times. Not a bad price to pay for such an
inexpensive 5 band antenna system. A four element quad will fail more often
under icy conditions. You will get any answer you want on comparisons, but
it will compare favorably with any triband yagi, particularly the trapped
tribanders.

Subject: [Antennas] Cubex quad question.
Folks,
Last winter I was devastaded by an ice storm that left ust without power for
4 days and dropped many trees in th area.
I live in New England and my elevation here is 1000 ASL. The tower is 129
feet of Rhon 55 g
I hade a Mosely Pro 67b which got twiste and all bent and broken.
I have a chance to get a new in the box Cubex Quad 4 element 3 band quad 20
15 10.
Given that it is about 2/3 of the weight with the same size boom I am wonder
if it would be a wise decesion to get this antenna.
Has anyone had experience with this antenna in harsh , cold and icy
enviorment?
How does it compare to the Mosely Pro 67 B?
Ant thoughts would be surely appreciated
Thank you
