Remember: a quarter-wave transmission line (be it co-ax or open wire) if
left open on one end, looks like a short circuit at the other end.
Whereas a half-wave line left open on one end looks open on the other
end. Pieces of transmission line that are not resonant at the operating
frequency, if less than a quarter wave long look like a capacitor
hanging across whatever they are connected to and those somewhat longer
than a quarter wavelength long at the operating frequency look like a
shunt inductance at the operating frequency.
