Gentlemen:
Normally I don't post to this topic, I do like to read the postings
though, just too many things to do. Anyway..I do want to chime in here
and offer my 2-cents. "REAL LIFE" experience is great...but I have found
ESPECIALLY with antennas..it has to be YOUR real life experience..or at
least someone in the general area, rather than someone one across the
country or "some time ago...."
I have two dipoles up 30 feet for 12 / 17.....work great..DX from Russia
to Japan...Yukon to Australia.
Same thing on my GROUND MOUNTED Hustler 5-BTV which everyone tells me "is
a compromise"..."won't work"..."Poor radiator"...and on and one.....
My take is this...if it's cheap...or if you can build it..go for it..see
for yourself. If it does what YOU want it to do then it's a great
antenna. If it doesn't do what another ham things it should do...to
bad...it's your shack..not theirs.
If space is a concern or money is a problem...I'd say take a look at
other verticals ...length is important..also check some books for antanna
plans, etc. I also have a 9 foot vertical made from conduit with two
coils at the top on a pvc t works 10-15-20 very nicely.
Bottom line...what works for me may not work for you.
