Codec Tweak Tool

This is a stand-alone version of the tool that is included in the K-Lite Codec Pack.

With this tool you can do things like:

• Scan the registry to detect and remove broken references to codecs and filters.
• Generate a detailed log of all installed codecs and DirectShow filters.
• Enable/disable more than 250 popular codecs and filters (if they are installed).
• Manage preferred source filters (a.k.a. splitters).
• Reset settings.
• Backup and restore settings.
• Adjust preferred decoders on Windows 7/8/10/11.
• Various tweaks for disabling MS codecs on Windows 7/8/10/11.
• Has ability to set 64-bit WMP as default.

VLC Media Player (a.k.a. VideoLAN)

VLC is a good media player. It has its own plugins for playing different audio and video formats, so it doesn't need any codecs to be installed. It plays almost everything and also works great for previewing partially downloaded files.

Intel Media SDK DLLs

This installer contains the files libmfxsw32.dll and libmfxsw64.dll from the Intel Media SDK.

LAV Video Decoder needs these files for decoding H.264 MVC 3D video. LAV Video decoder is included with the K-Lite Codec Pack, and is used by default.

This decoder does not use hardware acceleration, so a reasonably fast CPU is needed for smooth playback. You do NOT need to have an Intel CPU or GPU.

To properly display the 3D video it is recommended to use MPC-HC as player and use MadVR as video renderer. Both are included in the K-Lite Codec Pack. You also need a TV/Monitor/Projector that is capable of displaying 3D video.

Nvidia Profile Inspector

This small tool allows you to edit application/game profile settings for your Nvidia driver.

This bundle contains an optimized profile for Media Player Classic (MPC-HC), which gives optimal performance for video playback.

It is also useful for Optimus systems (laptops with Intel+Nvidia) as it allows setting the Nvidia GPU as the preferred GPU for Media Player Classic. On Windows 10/11 you can do that in the Windows display settings (which overrides NVIDIA settings).
