Why is Ted considered an animated feature and Spiderman and Batman are not?
In movies where the lead/titular character is animated as opposed to a live-action-filmed actor, it's fair to include it among animated films. Not that they're the ultimate authority, but Box Office Mojo usefully identifies the "CGI Star" category of film:

Good point, Ethan.
As a practical matter, I don't think there is a lot of difference. A "live action" film with a lot of animated visual effects (Spidey swining on his web, for instance) could well be employing a lot of animators and compositors, just as an animated feature of hybrid feature would.
So employment-wise, these pictures are often similar.
