Summary of the Results of Internal Migration in 2007

1. Number of inter-prefectural migrants decreased for the 12 straight years
1.1. Number of Japanese internal migrants in 2007 was 5,498,941 persons, the rate of migration 4.36%, and decreased for the 4 straight years.
1.2. Number of Japanese inter-prefectural migrants in 2007 was 2,579,538 persons, the rate of migration 2.05%, and decreased for the 12 straight years.
1.3. Number of Japanese intra-prefectural migrants in 2007 was 2,919,403 persons, the rate of migration 2.32%, and decreased for the 4 straight years.
2. The rate of net-migration in Kawasaki-shi was 1.35%, and exceeded 1% for the first time in 17 years in major cities
2.1. As for the net-migration for prefectures, the net-migration showed a plus in 7 prefectures : Tokyo-to (the highest rate of 0.76%), Kanagawa-ken (0.37%), Chiba-ken (0.33%), and so on.
2.2. The rate of net-migration increased in 6 prefectures compared with the previous year : Chiba-ken, Kanagawa-ken, Tokyo-to, Saitama-ken, Mie-ken, Shiga-ken.
2.3. On the other hand , the net-migration showed a minus in 40 prefectures : Aomori-ken (the lowest rate of -0.73%),Nagasaki-ken (-0.70%), Akita-ken (-0.61%), and so on.
2.4. The rate of net-migration decreased in 30 prefectures compared with the previous year : Kochi-ken, Okinawa-ken, and so on.
2.5. As for the net-migration for 18 major cities, the net-migration showed a plus in 14 major cities : Kawasaki-shi (the highest rate of 1.35%), Ku-area of Tokyo (0.93%), Fukuoka-shi (0.47%), and so on.
2.6. The rate of net-migration in Kawasaki-shi exceeded 1% for the first time in 17 years in 18 major cities. Kawasaki-shi was the only city which showed a plus rate of net-migration from all prefectures and Ku-area of Tokyo.

3. The net-migration for Tokyo Area showed a large plus for the first time since bubble years
3.1. As for the net-migration for 3 major areas, Tokyo Area showed plus 155,150 persons, Nagoya Area showed plus 17,554 persons, and Osaka Area showed minus 15,646 persons.
3.2. Tokyo Area showed a large plus net-migration more than 150,000 persons for the first time in 20 years since 1987 of bubble years. Of which, Tokyo-to was 94,500 persons, and accounted for 60.9% of the net-migration of Tokyo Area.
