The Crime Congress April, 2020 Kyoto
The Congress, which is held every five years, is the United Nations’ largest international conference in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. At the 13th Congress, which was held in 2015 in Doha, Qatar, it was decided that the 14th Congress would be held in 2020 in Japan.
In 1970, Japan hosted the 4th Congress. At that time, the venue was also in Kyoto, and it was the first time for the Congress to be held outside Europe. 2020 will be a notable year in that it will mark the 50th anniversary since the last time Japan hosted the Congress, and it will also be the year of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
At the 14th Congress, it is our sincere hope that participants coming from all over the world will have fruitful and productive discussions. At the same time, they will have the opportunity to experience Japanese traditions and culture first hand. We hope that this Congress will also provide an opportunity for the Japanese people to consider how they can contribute to preventing recidivism, achieving a peaceful and safe society, and fostering a culture of lawfulness, which is the key to both issues.
The 14th Congress is expected to be held in April 2020, and the Ministry of Justice will continue its
preparations in cooperation with relevant agencies.
